At the start of the summer I took a short trip to Edinburgh. I'd been there before, but only in the depths of winter, when it was too cold and rainy for me to want to spend much time outdoors. I was mostly just running from tea shop to tea shop. I was excited to see the city in good weather and to have the leisure to take photos. Right now it's dark and cold outside again, and summer feels like a long time ago! So I thought it was a good time to review these shots, pick out some favourites, and remind myself that sunshine is a thing that exists.

Whenever I travel, I like to look out for unique hand-lettered signs. Edinburgh did not disappoint! There were lots of handmade and vintage signs, not only in shops but also in more unexpected places like on this lovely crane at Edinburgh Castle.

I also like looking out for architectural details that you just wouldn't see at home, from the warm tones of the sandstone used to quirky buildings like this lovely round tower.

Something that really impressed me about Edinburgh was the scale of the streets and buildings. It's a smaller city than Dublin but the town centre has much more of a big-city feel due to the sheer size of some of the buildings.

It was a pretty short trip so I didn't get to see all the local landmarks, but we did see the Scott Monument:

and of course Edinburgh Castle. I loved the castle itself, and also the amazing views from the walls.

Edinburgh is a beautiful city, and I can't wait to return for a longer visit one day!
